Vinitaly 2023

Vinitaly 2023

06 April 2023

The 55th edition of Vinitaly, the largest international exhibition of wines and spirits, has just concluded, and, from the 2nd to the 5th of April, it has literally invaded Verona. Already in the days preceding the inauguration of the trade fair, in fact, the city's structures were already sold out. After two years of tiring recovery, we can finally speak of a record edition, with over 4,000 exhibitors from more than 30 countries, including some new entries from Africa, South America and the Balkans, and a contingent of more than 1,000 top buyers from over 68 countries, invited and hosted by Veronafiere. To anticipate the inauguration of the event, on the 1st of April  was held Opera Wine, the exclusive event which, in collaboration with the American magazine Wine Spectator, has been selecting and classifying the excellence of Italian wine since 2012 (there are also some of our acquaintances!), projecting them towards the large foreign markets. There were also countless meetings, presentations and round tables dedicated to producers and professional operators in the sector, with a particular focus on health, sustainability and the evolution of the world of wine and spirits.

While at the fair they were talking about wine business, from the 31st of  March to the 3rd of April, in the heart of Verona took place "Vinitaly and the city", the Vinitaly off-show dedicated to wine lovers from all over the world. It was a question of four days of tastings, meetings and cultural events spread across the heart of Verona: a real journey to discover the excellence of wine and the beauty of the most significant places in the historic center of Verona, a UNESCO World Heritage city.

Pagus at Vinitaly

Like every year, Pagus could not miss this appointment, a unique opportunity to have a talk with old friends and new collaborators before the forthcoming tourist season. Wandering around pavilions 4, 5 and 8, dedicated to companies from the Veneto region, we met many well-known faces, such as Cornelia, from Cornelia Tessari winery in Monteforte d'Alpone, who poured us a glass of their new product: Utopia di Garganega, the first Vermouth born from the encounter of Soave wine with 20 botanical herbs from the Veronese area.

Moving to the classic Valpolicella area, we met many friends and historical collaborators, perhaps even too many to be able to stop and talk to everyone, but we managed to get someone to pose for a photo, such as Giorgio from Corte Badin, Silvia from Corte Archi, Massimo from Lavarini winery, Fabio from Le Marognole, Daniele and Lara from Damoli, and Marco from DolceVera winery.

From next season, we will start a new collaboration with Corteforte winery, in Fumane in the heart of the classic Valpolicella. Right here at Vinitaly we saw Francesco with his son, who can't wait to welcome you to the cellar and introduce you to their wines.

Moving on to Valpolicella DOC area, another well-known face in Pagus is that of Laura, who since some years has ventured with her sisters into an ambitious project entirely dedicated to her mother: Veronese Beatrice winery. It is still a young reality, but which already has, in addition to the typical reds of Valpolicella, three white wine labels: Prosecco, Soave and Pinot Grigio.

This year we also visited the Lazio pavilion, where we met Luciana, owner of a small company on the island of Ponza (Antiche Cantine Migliaccio) who cultivates and vinifies "unique" products on the island, such as Fieno di Ponza and the elegant Biancolella.

In the Marche pavilion we met Giovanni Battista and Martina of the Borgo Paglianetto winery, who introduced us to their Vertis, an extraordinary Verdicchio di Matelica.

As always, it was a unique and special occasion, which made it possible to strengthen relationships and open up to new perspectives. We can't wait to welcome you in this new season of wine tours, which promises to be rich and exciting, to personally accompany you to discover our territory, with its cellars and fantastic wines.
