What is Pagus?

Pagus was born in October 2000 as a Cultural Association, founded to promote the History and the Art of Valpolicella region. Everything started from a thesis, written for the University of Verona, about the production of wine and the extraction of stone in Valpolicella during the Roman times.

Indeed, the name “Pagus” refers to the district created by the Romans in Valpolicella probably during the first century  BC.

In 2013 the Association became “Pagus Wine Tours”, a company with license of travel agency, and the tour proposals were not limited to the area of Valpolicella, the land of Amarone wine, but they expanded to include all the Veronese wine regions, such as Soave, Bardolino, Lugana, Custoza, Valdadige and also, out of Verona, Prosecco, Franciacorta and Trento areas.

Today Pagus Wine Tours works with its three minivans, it has an office in Verona and owes its success to the commitment, experience and professionalism of six people.

Alessia Canteri
She was born and grew up in Valpolicella. She took a degree in Civil Engineering at the University of Padua and she keeps an emotional and professional bond with her motherland. Precise and practiced in problem solving, in Pagus she takes care about the administration and management of the company, so if you have any kind of problem about payments or stuff like that, you know who you should ask for!

Davide Canteri
Founder and owner of Pagus Wine Tours and hundred percent Veronese, he’s first of all a teacher and a History lover. He teaches Italian, History and Geography at a middle school just out of Valpolicella. He’s the author of the University research about the Romans in Valpolicella, from which it all started. Moreover, he has a tour leader license and he got a certificate as an ONAV wine taster, even if he thinks that “the experience is made on field”. He’s always connected with Pagus (his “third daughter”), and today he leads tours only as a “substitute” (but well prepared).

Sofia Zanotti
Sofia Zanotti is a real Veronese DOC; she was raised between the beautiful Verona and Valpolicella vineyards. From Bologna University, she got a degree in Cultural Anthropology studying food and wine as material aspects of human culture. She has a great passion for wine and cuisine, in fact, she acquired the Professional Sommelier Diploma and is a member of the Italian Sommelier Association. Sofia fell in love with the project of Pagus Wine Tour and she joined us in 2015. She loves being a wine-tour guide: this job gives her the chance to know people from all over the world and the privilege to represent her country to them. When is not working Sofia loves to travel with her backpack, reading (of course with a good glass of wine in her hand) and cooking. She is great in transmitting her knowledge and love for Verona and is beloved by guests for her wonderful sense of humor.

Angelica Cerpelloni
Angelica is the new entry in Pagus. She started to work with us since January 2018 in the office to organize your tour! She is graduated in Cultural Heritage since 2015. She worked in the tourist office of Valpolicella in 2017 and from this good experience she could know and gets passionate in this beautiful territory, its food, wine and cultural things. She is kind, friendly and accurate, she loves to communicate with people. She is the first person you meet and know to organize your tour with us, so she is the first face of Pagus!

Lara Damoli

Dynamic, sunny and, mostly, very well prepared girl in terms of Verona typical wines and wines in general. Lara was born in Negrar, in the heart of Valpolicella Classica district, she defines herself as indigenous, as the grapes. With very simple words she’s able to take people to discover the wine world, her world, since her family has been producing wines in Valpolicella since generations. She is also a Professional Sommelier and a member of the Italian Sommelier Association.

Silvia Dottorini
Silvia, after 30 years working for a travel agency, joined Pagus in May 2013 as technical director of the Company. Friendly, kind and welcoming she’s a food and wine lover with great passion for our local traditions. Our “blond director”, as we call her, works with coordination of the activities helping Pagus to grow, improving constantly the offer of the tours.

We create innovative tasting experiences that impact the way people experience the world.
